Lifestyle Medicine in South Delhi

Dr. Sanjay Sachdev offers physician-led lifestyle medicine in South Delhi — using nutrition, movement, sleep and stress as primary treatment for diabetes, hypertension, fatty liver, obesity and cardiovascular risk, alongside the right medication when needed.

What lifestyle medicine treats

Type 2 diabetes and pre-diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidaemia, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, obesity and metabolic syndrome, early coronary artery disease, PCOS-related metabolic issues, and the general fatigue, sleep and energy complaints that sit underneath them.

The six pillars

Nutrition built around whole, minimally-processed Indian food. Physical activity calibrated to your joints and schedule. Restorative sleep — quantity, timing and quality. Stress and nervous-system regulation. Avoidance of risky substances (tobacco, excess alcohol). Positive social and family connection. Each is assessed, scored and worked on in sequence.

How it works alongside medication

Medications are tools, not identities. As your HbA1c, blood pressure, weight and lipids respond to lifestyle change, your prescription is actively right-sized — doses reduced, drugs stopped where safe. Newer agents (GLP-1s like Ozempic and Mounjaro) are used selectively where lifestyle alone won't reach the target in time, and tapered as goals are met.

What to expect in the first 90 days

Week 1–2: baseline labs, a written plan, and the first changes (usually breakfast, evening walking, and sleep window). Week 4–6: review of glucose, BP and weight trend, plan refinement. Week 8–12: repeat HbA1c, lipid and liver labs, medication adjustment, and a 6-month roadmap.

Who it's for

Adults newly diagnosed with diabetes, hypertension or fatty liver who want to do the work before settling into long-term medication; patients already on multiple drugs who want to step down; executives carrying 10–25 kg of excess weight; and families with strong genetic risk who want to change the trajectory early.

Where to consult

Friends Colony East (C-58) and Maharani Bagh Community Centre, South Delhi. By appointment, Monday to Saturday. Follow-ups can be in person or by video; lab work can be home-collected across South Delhi, Noida and Gurugram.

Frequently asked

What is lifestyle medicine?
Lifestyle medicine uses evidence-based changes in nutrition, physical activity, sleep, stress, alcohol and tobacco to prevent, treat and often reverse chronic disease — type 2 diabetes, hypertension, fatty liver, obesity, dyslipidaemia and early coronary disease. It is delivered by a physician, alongside (not instead of) medication where needed.
How is this different from seeing a nutritionist or trainer?
A nutritionist plans meals; a trainer plans workouts. A lifestyle medicine physician integrates labs, medications, family history and existing conditions to build one plan — and adjusts your prescription as your numbers improve, so you don't end up over-medicated as you recover.
Can lifestyle medicine reverse type 2 diabetes?
In many patients diagnosed within the last 5–7 years, structured weight loss, dietary change and activity can bring HbA1c below the diabetic range and allow medications to be reduced or stopped under supervision. Results depend on duration of diabetes, beta-cell reserve and adherence.
What does a typical plan look like?
An initial 45–60 minute consult to map your history, labs and goals; a written plan covering eating pattern, movement, sleep and stress; medication right-sizing; and follow-ups at 4–6 weeks, 3 months and 6 months with repeat labs to track HbA1c, lipids, BP, weight and liver markers.
Do I have to give up Indian food or go vegan?
No. Plans are built around home-cooked Indian food — dal, sabzi, roti, curd, fruit — with portion, timing and quality changes. The aim is a pattern you can hold for years, not a 30-day diet.
Is this useful if I'm already on medication?
Yes — often most useful then. Lifestyle work lowers the dose your body needs. Many patients on multiple BP, diabetes or cholesterol drugs are stepped down to one or none over 6–12 months.
